Opera Australia’s The Marriage of Figaro from Sydney Opera House
to be delivered to cinemas worldwide by CinemaLive

CinemaLive, Opera Australia and Sydney Opera House are excited to announce that The Marriage of Figaro will be the first of many performances by Opera Australia at Sydney Opera House to be delivered to cinemas throughout the world by CinemaLive.  Filmed in high definition, The Marriage of Figaro will hit cinemas in Australia and New Zealand in October.

Starring Teddy Tahu Rhodes as Figaro, Taryn Fiebig as Susanna, Peter Coleman-Wright as Count Almaviva and Rachelle Durkin as the Countess, Mozart’s The Marriage of Figaro has been described as a near perfect opera.  With Neil Armfield as Director and the Orchestra conducted by Patrick Summers, words and music truly do come together, in this comedy spiced with the politics of revolution.

Next on the agenda is Rigoletto, which will be broadcast in cinemas in December. One of Opera Australia’s best-loved productions – Verdi’s Rigoletto can also be enjoyed from the comfort of local cinemas around Australia and New Zealand.  One of Britain’s most distinguished baritones, Alan Opie is set to return to Australia to play the title role.  Rigoletto also stars Emma Matthews as Gilda, Australian tenor Paul O’Neill as the dangerously sexy Duke of Mantua, David Parkin as the deadly assassin Sparafucile and features the award-winning Opera Australia Chorus.

The delivery of both The Marriage of Figaro and RIgoletto to cinemas and big screen venues around the world is the result of a recent agreement between CinemaLive, Opera Australia and Sydney Opera House to deliver the very best of Australian opera performances from Sydney’s iconic landmark.

This exciting long-term deal will make Opera accessible to both the enthusiast and the uninitiated from all over the world by experiencing the magic of some of Opera Australia’s grandest productions, performed in one of the world’s most beautiful opera venues, Sydney Opera House, all from their local cinema.

Captured in stunning high definition with 5.1. surround sound, each performance is a unique experience, combining music, art, theatre, dance and artistic talent with glamour and spectacle, emotions and beautiful music.
