It wasn’t just the Sydney Opera House audience who gave the production of ‘La bohème’ a standing ovation on Wednesday night (October 29th). Cinema exhibitors and patrons throughout Australia have declared the live screening of the classic Italian opera an outstanding success.
CinemaLive was granted access to ‘ABC2 Live presents Opera Australia’s La bohème’ from the Sydney Opera House to broadcast the event LIVE to CinemaLive partners in Adelaide, Sydney, Darwin and regional NSW. The result was a cultural extravaganza which looked and sounded magnificent, with the CinemaLive technology delivering flawless coverage from the first note to the final curtain.
Tickets were made available free-of-charge as part of a ‘cultural giving initiative’. The screening attracted full houses with many cinemas reporting their audiences burst into applause at the end of the screening, with patrons expressing their gratitude and requesting details of the next CinemaLive event. The screening attracted full houses and generated well above average food & beverage sales for a mid-week audience.
“Being from Darwin, this is a fantastic way to see a live show I could never get to see in Sydney.”
“The opera looked amazing on the big screen, and the sound was incredible. It felt like you were there in the Opera House Theatre.”
“I can’t wait to see the next live show... seeing it in the cinema and knowing it’s live... it just makes it feel special.”
…and overheard in the foyer of the Dendy Opera Quays cinema:
Wife: “Wasn’t that incredible?”
Husband: “Not incredible – brilliant, darling, brilliant!!”
CinemaLive promises to be larger than live!
